Petrol pump attendants to get higher minimum wages

In an official statement dated 4th August, 2017, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Dharmendra Pradhan said, “It is mandatory for all retail outlets to pay Central/State (whichever is higher) Minimum wages to Retail Outlet Attendants…

This will result in a 50 per cent hike in wages of all 10 lakh petrol pump attendants of more than 50 thousand petrol pumps in India.

Pradhan also said that transparency in financial transactions, financial inclusion of contractual workers and elimination of middlemen are top priorities of the Modi government.  In order to fortify this, “Salaries of Petrol Pump attendants will be credited directly to their bank accounts” and to facilitate this, the dealers’ margin for petrol and diesel has been revised from August 1.
